It is extremely common for new puppies to bite and nip their new owner and as such it is usually the first problem a new owner will have to overcome. Nearly all new puppies take part in this behaviour, which is hard wired to its brain, but as a family pet it is a behaviour that needs to be controlled. To stop puppy biting becoming a problem for you there are some very simple tactics that will stop the danger in its track before it can get out of hand. Before solving a problem we must first understand it, so before tackling it let us realise why they do it.

There are a number of very good reasons why your new puppy is biting you, if you can realise why it is happening you can tackle the problem easily.

The advice and tips that follow are all positive ways to stop your puppy biting, of course, without a consistent approach they will work no better than doing nothing, in fact it may be worse. All the family need to be aware of the approach being taken to control the puppy nipping, kids especially, there should be no time that the rules don’t apply. Follow this simple consistency rule and your puppy can learn to stop biting in a matter fo hours depending on their intelligence.

The dog way.
Follow the way puppies play in the pack, when your puppy bites, let out a yelp and immediately stop playing and avoid eye contact for a while, usually after a short time your puppy will approach you to make up. Do not hold a grudge, after a short time when puppy has realised you should make up by continuing play, but repeat it every time, consistently applied this will stop your puppy biting quickly and painlessly so everyone can enjoy pain free play sessions.

2. Have chewable toys that belong to your puppy.
3. do not over excite puppy
4. Avoid leaving alone for long periods
