Bad Claims Hiking Car Insurance Premiums

September 29, 2009

We live in a society where everyone is worried about the number one - themselves! This means that for most people, when they get into a car and drive, they are focused on their own driving and are usually not worried about the other road users. This is normally a silly mistake, as most good driving schools will tell you. A good driver is focused on their own driving, but also observers and anticipates the actions of other drivers. If you are aware of other drivers and watch the road carefully you may be able to prevent an accident from occurring. It can be easy to spot a haphazard driver.

This could save you from having an accident! The problem is, you can drive carefully, and keep a good watch on other road users, but you cannot prevent OTHER people from having an accident. If you are not involved in the accident, you may wonder why this would be your problem? The fact to consider is that ultimately, other people having motor collisions and claiming off insurance could give you increased insurance quotes in future.

Car insurance companies base their premiums on a variety of factors. There are the factors which cannot be swayed, which are age, gender, driving history and type of vehicle. Then there are the ones that you can work on to assist you in getting a lower premium. These are usually security measures such as installing a tracker on your vehicle, keeping your vehicle in a locked garage overnight and putting in a good alarm system. The thing that most people do not realize is that awful drivers could be ruining it for the rest of us. The age factor is most certainly influenced by bad claim history. As young drivers are more reckless, and are more inclined to be caught up in a vehicle accident, motor insurance companies have hiked the premiums for youth.

The more people claim on small accidents such as driving over curbs and parking accidents, the higher the premium will be for drivers with that on their history. The fact of the matter is that the more accidents that are claimed for, the more paranoid the insurance companies become and thus the higher the premiums grow. It could do us all good as individuals to be alert and careful when driving, and to always persuade the same of friends and family members. To repeat an earlier point, you are not the only driver on the road, and it is in your best interests to ensure that you are keeping a watchful eye on the other road users around you.
