Pest and vermin control in the North West has seen a lively start (2010) which is rather surprising given the relatively colder (weather of this last winter|winter of 2009/10}.

Pest operatives were kept occupied with the usual city centre rodent infestations during the winter of course, but the relatively cold early spring has already brought some ant problems coming in.

The wet summers of the last few years were not to the taste of the hymenoptera (bees, ants, sawflies and wasps) but this year looks like it will turn out to be a busy year for flying ant calls.

Frequently ants make their nests under the floors of buildings and inside cavity walls causing an army of foraging ants to invade kitchens and food cupboards.

However it is at mating time when they can be most distressing as they create winged queens and males which then mate on the wing.

The emergence of thousands of these flying ants inside homes can be traumatic in the extreme.

A fairly new pest was quite prevalant in the the North West area last season, the Varied Carpet Beetle (Anthrenus verbasci).

It was unusual for pest controllers in Lancashire, Manchester and Cheshire to encounter these pests until lately but they seemed to arrive from nowhere in 2008 and already this spring has seen sightings of varied carpet beetle in large numbers.

These insects have a similar life cycle to moths their larvae, known as woolly bears devour natural fibres and can do a great deal of damage to carpets and natural fabrics. They can be a difficult and persistent pest to eradicate.

Those involved in pest control have noted that Bed Bugs are continuing their renaissance in the the North West area, frequently arriving as unwanted guests in the suitcases of returning travellers.

Very often the initial reaction of unfortunates who realise that they have been infested with these revolting,blood-sucking insects is to destroy the old beds and get.

This is an expensive error as despite their name bed bugs not only live in beds and in an infested room will be found everywhere within up to five metres of the bed, in cupboards, drawers etc, even in electrical wall sockets and the new beds will be quickly re-infested.

Most people confuse bed bugs with dust mites which are not visible to the naked eye. They both require a different type of pest control.

They dine just on blood which they drink from their sleeping hosts. People often associate bed bugs with dirty living conditions but nothing could be less accurate, they do not need grime, they dine on you!

Up to April 30th 2010 Cheshire & Gatley Pest Control are giving a 25% discount on their three year guaranteed ant treatment.

The revolutionary new treatment which we guarantee for three years, extendable indefinitely in further three year chunks by a affordable re-treatment every three years, can be carried out in most houses subject to free site survey

For the summer of 2010 Cheshire Pest Control are providing a fixed price for destroying wasps nests in the Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire area of just thirty two pounds.
